PLOGGING
We can all make a difference

Waste is a bigger and bigger issue in the world and the Arctic is not exception, on the contrary. Here we do not only have to deal with earlier times indifferent attitude of waste. We also have to deal with waste from all over the world ending up on the Greenland coastline and on the small islands the picturesque archipelago. We are grateful for the growing awareness off taking care of our environment and introducing plogging to the area. It is our wish not only to work with plogging during the festival, but to engage the community into greater awareness through the year with activities to activate and engage the community to commitment by engaging the schools.Plogga. The word plogging is an English-Swedish combination of jogging and plocka upp, which means “pick up” in Swedish. Swedish speakers use plogga, a combination of plocka upp with jogga (“jog”). Both words, though, refer to the same activity of picking up litter while out on a jog.

Building boardwalks and trails

The country has unspeakable the greatest land in the arctic for hiking. Mountain and endless tundra are the setting for this festival. We thrive to contribute to make this country accessible to more people and that includes the communities. Arctic Hiking Festival is proud to contribute to the accessibility for everyone in the community, disabled, elders, children and encourage and motivate more young people to get out and enjoy the nature, to connect with themselves, exercise, have valuable relations and give them a sense of proudness and self-esteem. Furthermore, the project will protect the environment and fragile Arctic vegetation by building boardwalks in historical areas and trails by natural hiking landmarks.

Flora, Fauna and Cooking

The harsh yet fragile and delicate Greenlandic vegetation offers a fantastic world of flowers and plants. You hike into the mountains with a local expert in flora and fauna. Along with plants and herbs you can prepare meals in the mountains and experiment with kambucha and other delights.

ARCTIC CIRCLE TRAIL
The magical trail

It it no wonder that this is Greenlands Hiking destination no1. No other place on this enormous island is the land between the icecap and the coast as grand as here. The hiking options are endless, and you can actually hike for days without meeting a single soul. We will explore parts of the 10 days Arctic Circle Trail hike from Icecap to Coast. We will also take time out to enjoy the view from the mountain tops that surrounds Sisimiut.

Together is more fun

We wish the festival to be a venue for the community to meet the world and participants to make new frindships. Everyday all participants across themes can meet at the social events. Together we will try the local Inuit Games,visit the historical museum and share the local food.
